Please note: Maverick AI and AI Pro are not medical devices, and we cannot provide medical or vision-care advice. What we share below reflects our product design and the results of our user testing. For advice about your own prescription or eye health, please consult your optician or eye-care professional.
Yes — you’ll be able to use Maverick AI and AI Pro with your prescription. Rx support will be one of the things that make them work as your everyday glasses.
What you need to know
- Maverick AI / AI Pro will support embedded single-vision prescription lens inserts, ordered as part of the ordering experience — there’s no separate site to visit.
- Supported prescriptions will range from -3.0 to +3.0 (SPH), with cylinder (astigmatism) from 0 to -1.0 (CYL) — single-vision only.
- Progressive / varifocal lenses are not available at launch. Supporting progressives is on our roadmap — we intend to add them, but the timing is not yet determined. We’ll share updates here and with the community as they become available.
- Your lenses will work with clear, tinted, or transition options — one non-Rx pair is included, so you get your vision correction and the shade you want.
Lens & prescription terms, explained
New to some of these words? Here’s a quick plain-language guide.
- Sphere (SPH) — the main strength of your prescription: a minus number for nearsightedness (e.g. -2.00) or a plus number for farsightedness (e.g. +1.50).
- Cylinder (CYL) / astigmatism — astigmatism is when the eye is shaped a little more like a football than a sphere, causing blur at certain angles. “Cylinder” is the strength that corrects it (e.g. -0.75). We currently support mild astigmatism (CYL 0 to -1.0).
- Axis — the angle (0–180°) at which the cylinder correction sits. You’ll only have an axis if you have a cylinder value.
- Pupillary distance (PD) — the distance between the centers of your pupils, used to align the lenses correctly.
- Single-vision — one correction across the whole lens (distance or near). This is what we support at launch.
- Progressive / varifocal — a lens with several focal zones blended top-to-bottom (distance, middle, near) with no visible line, so one pair covers far and near. Not available at launch (on our roadmap).
- Transition / photochromic — the same thing: lenses that automatically darken in sunlight (UV) and clear up indoors. Available in both Rx and non-Rx.
- Tinted — a fixed shade (like regular sunglasses) that doesn’t change.
- Clear — no tint; everyday clear lenses.
What to have ready
- Your current prescription details: sphere (SPH) for each eye and your pupillary distance (PD). (Include your cylinder (CYL) and axis too if you have astigmatism — we support cylinder from 0 to -1.0; higher cylinder isn’t supported yet.)
- Many opticians will email you a copy of your prescription.
How to submit it
- You’ll enter your prescription in your Backer Survey when it arrives.
- Not sure your prescription is supported? Reach out and we’ll help you check.
If your prescription is outside the supported range
We currently support single-vision SPH -3.0 to +3.0 and CYL 0 to -1.0. If your prescription is outside that, or you need progressives, we cannot make those lenses yet and there is no firm date for the range to expand. You have three options:
- Order standard lenses now, add Rx later: complete your order with the included standard (non-Rx) lenses so it ships on schedule, then order your prescription lenses at your discount once your range is supported.
- Hold your order: we hold your order until we can make your prescription, then ship.
- Cancel: cancel for a refund (see “Changing or canceling your Kickstarter order”).
Progressive and varifocal lenses and astigmatism above -1.0 are on our roadmap, with timing not yet set. Not sure about your prescription? Contact us and we will check it with you.
Swapping lenses later
Lenses are easy to swap at home, so you are not locked in. If your exact prescription is not supported yet, start with what works now and change your lenses later, for example when expanded ranges arrive. Prescription lenses are shared across Maverick AI and AI Pro; the AI Pro lenses carry an extra coating for eye tracking and work on both.
